The housing situation will work out like this. In preparation of volunteers arriving and length of stay, I am renting bedrooms in fully equipped homes welcoming volunteers. The price of stay is negotiated after I receive your travel details. I have volunteers coming to Uganda for a week, a few weeks and even a few months. We will all stay near each other if not in the same house. There are plenty of alternatives should you be more comfortable with other arrangements. We can discuss this further so that I can get a clear view of your comfort zone and the choices.
If you are a couple, you would get your own room. If you are coming alone you may end up sharing the room with another volunteering friend. Acommodations are an easy thing to coordinate. The area we'd be staying in or near is called Ntinda. That's about 15-20 minutes from the main city center. I consider the mall called Garden City to be in the center of town in Kampala.
You should expect to spend about $150 to $250USD per week which includes the housekeeper, water heater, electricity, and gas.
If you choose to stay in a hotel, they range from $75. to $180. per night in places reccommended like Serena Hotel or Speke Hotel. Although I've stayed in Jevine Hotel and can try and work out discounts there or in other hotels. This option will incur more expenses as you will need to coordinate your own transportation to group meeting points. When spending in US dollars you really don't spent to much. $1.USD converts to $3,800UGX shillings.
