SECURITY & SAFETY

Homes in Uganda like the one you'll be staying in, there's always a paid security guard. Usually neighbors pitch in and one watchman can supervise several homes in the night. This is customary in most areas. Also it's cheap to have piece of mind. I never had an issue, ofcourse mostly all the homes I stayed at had security. Watchmen who can also be off-duty police officers can cost you less than $100 for one month of service to an individual property.

HOW YOU DRESS MATTERS

The casual look works best. It's never smart to go to any country with bling bling on you. I dressed like I fit in. Jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers. I usually always carried a backpack or a fanny-pack. In busy areas I carried my back pack on my chest instead of my back.

GETTING AROUND

For the most part, I will supply you with varies drivers from boda-bodas to private taxis so that you can call them should you want to be picked up. Never take a stranger taxi at night time if you are alone. Better safe than sorry. I was very careful and have never had an issue.

YOUR BELONGINGS

Always be aware of your surroundings. If you are on the phone with the car window down, someone will snatch it. I've heard stories even though it never happened to me. Always have your belongings closr and visible. As a woman I carried my money in my bra :)

We can talk more about safety and security as we get more in depth on our travel plans.
