Travel Details & Immigration
Uganda airlines usually have a layover via Dubai or Amsterdam. The most affordable time to visit for this mission will be at the end May 2016 or September through November. Round trip tickets can range from $960 to $1,150 during the months mentioned in the previous sentence. Plane tickets will double for the months of June through beginning of September 2016.
The best time to be hands on with the Gift of Giving Project will be from June through December and beyond as the programs are in place.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
The best and cheapest time to purchase travel insurance is when you buy your plane ticket. Every time I travel I’ve purchased the insurance. Thankfully I have never needed to use it, however, its a small cost to assure a clear mind.
The way most insurances work is that you first have to pay for any medical expenses or plane ticket difference. Upon returning back to America, you supply the insurance company with receipts/proof and they will reimburse you.
Save all receipts and/or letters obtained from any doctor visits or airline ticketing.
Be sure to ask all the questions you want. Read your insurance contract and take a copy with you.
VISAS & PASSPORTS
Visas are available at Entebbe Airport upon arrival or may be obtained from the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda on their website at: http://washington.mofa.go.ug/data-smenu-53-Visa-Requirements.html
VALID PASSPORT: You will need a passport that has at least six months validity and an empty stamp page.
TOURIST VISA REQUIRED:
Required for U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents of the USA.
You can pay the $100. fee upon arrival at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. A Single entry visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. Visa fees must be paid in cash (exact money please)
If you plan to obtain your visa upon landing at Entebbe Airport, you should confirm in advance that your airline will allow you to board without a visa. When I travel on Delta, KLM, and FlyDubai they did not require me to have the visa available. Now if you have a long layover and want to leave the airport in that country, you will need a visa. You should check the country's visa/travel sites.
- When I designed my trip to have a 11-hours lay-over in Dubai, I spent 3 hours on every wrong line to get a visa to leave the airport for a few hours. I finally gave up and just spent the night at the airport. Next time I shall pre-prepare.
