LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

FANNY'S CAR

As far as a car, I have every intention on buying a used car for the six months I will be there. I expect to sell it back before my departure. This method is the best for you and me. Although we may be in traffic jams this is the safest and most realiable way to move around. The car will allow us to load books and head out to distribute them freely. We can all chip in for the gas consumed during our drives. Below are other alternatives to moving around.

USING BODA-BODAs (Motorcycle Taxis)

Boda bodas are readily available when you have to go somewhere near and quickly. WIth this option you will get there soonest. You will need to buy a helmet that will cost you between $20 to $50 USDollars. This comes with its cons as well. It's the most vulnerable way to ride becuase you are on a motorcyle. Rides will range from $1.00 to $300.

TAXIs (Small Buses)

These taxis are spread all throughout the city. This option will cost less and is a good options for long rides. Prices for taxis can go as low as $0.20 and $0.75 for longer distances.

Car Taxis

These are shared cabs/taxis that are also available usually for distances like from Kampala to Entebbe. They compete with the Taxi buses so their prices stay competitive.

PRIVATE CARS (Available for rental)

I have a few recommendations of friends that are private drivers professionally. We can easily rent a car to take us where we want and pick us up at any hour. This is the best option during the time of initiating the books project.

Prices can be negotiated based on our use, hours, etc.

About Walking

I walked around plenty. I made sure that I dressed normal not flashy. Night time walking on your own, not safe. If you want to go somewhere it's always best to go with one of our local friends. I walked plenty by myself. I felt completely moving about during daylight. At night time I only went out with personal friends.
